As the Co-Owner and Dance Director of Ballroom in Motion, Matt Watson is the heart and soul of the studio. With over 15 years of experience as both a competitive instructor and professional ballroom dancer, he brings unmatched energy, precision, and passion to everything he does.

A fourth-generation dancer, Matt was born and raised in a studio, inheriting his love for the art of ballroom from his mother, Teena Marie. His training includes mentorship from some of the most highly respected dancers in the world, including three-time World Champion and multiple U.S. Champion Emmanuel Pierre-Antoine. He has also worked with nationally known professionals from Dancing With the Stars, such as Louis Van Amstel, Jonathan Roberts, and Karina Smirnoff.

As both performer and director, Matt has made a lasting mark on the dance world. He has directed the Atlanta Ballroom Dance Theatre, created the teen performance group Ballroom Blitz, and traveled the country performing in professional shows. Many of his students have gone on to win prestigious international titles, a reflection of his commitment to helping dancers grow to their highest potential.

Beyond the ballroom, Matt is deeply devoted to giving back. He generously donates his time and talent to local causes, including SafeHomes of Augusta through Fake It to Make It, Dancing with the Augusta Stars benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association, and Ballroom in Motion’s own fundraiser, The Pink Party, supporting breast cancer awareness.
